展览简介

Introduction

 

 

1956年生于上海的徐龙森，数十年来深入研习五代、北宋笔墨传统，并临习李唐、王蒙、四僧等名家作品。同时，他长期行走祖国河山，将山川的形貌与气魄深植于心，逐渐形成以直觉为主导的创作方式。他强调“丘壑成于胸中”，以笔墨直达山水内在的生命律动。徐龙森的山水尤重“高远”，画面少有树木与人迹，以厚重墨法营造出宏阔气象，唤起观者对洪荒创世的联想。

 

徐龙森既深植中国传统，又以开放姿态参与跨文化交流。他的大型水墨与装置曾进入国际博物馆、教堂、法院等地，积极回应艺术作品的“公共性”命题，重申山水的精神价值，同时拓展其表现形式与传播可能。本次展览将集中呈现艺术家的大型水墨作品及装置，邀请观众感受山河万象之美与其中蕴含的精神文化传承。

 

Born in Shanghai in 1956, Xu Longsen has dedicated decades to the study of shanshui traditions, especially the brush-and-ink methods of the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song, as well as the works of masters such as Li Tang, Wang Meng, and the “Four Monks.” At the same time, Xu has long immersed himself in China’s mountains and rivers, repeatedly traveling to Mount Hua alone to absorb their forms and grandeur. This experience fostered an intuition-driven mode of creation. He paints in a state of “being with” the shanshui—what ancient critics called “mountains and valleys formed in the mind.” Xu emphasizes the “high distance.” His paintings rarely feature trees or human figures; instead, layers of ink washes and bold brushwork summon vast, primordial terrains that evoke the chaos of creation.

 

Deeply rooted in Chinese brush-and-ink practice, landscape aesthetics, and Eastern philosophy, he nonetheless embraces openness, situating his work within cross-cultural exchanges in public space. His monumental paintings and installations have entered international museums, churches, and courthouses, engaging in dialogue across cultures. Xu addresses the contemporary question of “publicness” in art—reaffirming shanshui’s spiritual value while expanding its expressive and communicative potential on a global stage. This exhibition presents Xu’s monumental ink paintings and installations, inviting audiences to experience the beauty and multiplicity of landscapes and the cultural spirit they embody.

徐龙森

Xu Longsen

 

1956年出生于中国上海，1976年毕业于上海工艺美术学校。现居北京创作。徐龙森曾在意大利罗马古文明博物馆、美国芝加哥艺术博物馆和纳尔逊博物馆、比利时布鲁塞尔皇家大法院、英国伦敦大学文莱美术馆等标志性艺术机构举办个展。

 

Xu Longsen was born in Shanghai, China in 1956 and graduated from the Shanghai Arts and Crafts College, Shanghai, China in 1976. He currently lives in Beijing, China. He has held solo exhibitions at iconic art institutions such as the Museum of Roman Civilization in Italy, the Art Institute of Chicago and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in the United States, the Palace of Justice in Brussels in Belgium, and the Brunei Gallery of the University of London in the United Kingdom.
